There, their last title hopes ended with much of the season remaining.
Before this, in the 2019-20 season, Liverpool tasted the title for the first time in the Premier League era and after waiting for three decades in the top league of English football, at the hands of Klopp’s team.
But the golden age seems to be retreating.
Liverpool are now sixth in the Premier League table. They are just a goal difference ahead of seventh-placed Brighton & Hove Albion. They are 6 points behind fourth-placed Tottenham Hotspur. If they don’t finish in the top four in the league at the end, they will fail to qualify for the Champions League for the first time under Klopp (a full season, 2016-17).
Klopp knows well how difficult the task is.
“The history we have in this competition, we usually start with the goal of winning the title. Every year we want to play in this competition, but it is very difficult for us now.”
“After the international football break we have a very important week of football ahead of us; To play against City, Chelsea, Arsenal. These three matches will determine how we finish the season. Obviously, we want to be in the top four.”
Salah, Diogo Zata are now joined by newcomers like Darwin Nunes and Cody Hakpo in Liverpool’s attack. There is no dearth of potential, but the time it will take for their chemistry to build up is indescribable.
Many believe that Liverpool’s run of success may be over.
